It is almost National Applesauce Cake Day and there is no better way to celebrate than by baking a cake with the kids. Make the day special by baking a cake and creating a day with the kids that is worth remembering.
Proper Cooking Clothes
Before starting on any cake baking venture, make sure the kids are wearing the right clothing. Play clothes are usually the best option to avoid any accidental spills staining nice clothing. It is also a good idea to have a kid's apron to block against spills. The last clothing item on the list is a good hook-and-loop toddler belt to keep pants secure so messy hands do not have to continuously pull up sagging pants.
Make It Fun
It is not all about making a gourmet dessert, but rather having fun with the kids while making it. Do not worry about the taste as much as what the kids get out of it. Help the kids measure ingredients correctly but try and let them measure on their own as much as possible. Also, let the kids pour in and mix the ingredients together. If they can have fun baking the cake then the results will always be tasty.
Another thing to keep in mind while cooking with the kids is to make it a safe environment. Talk to the kids about steering clear of the oven when putting the cake in or taking it out. Also, put any sharp knives away and mix the batter with a hand-held whisk rather than an electric mixer.
After the cake is done, make it a family event. Have everyone sit down with homemade cake, fresh cold milk and vanilla ice cream. Do not forget to rave about how amazing the cake is because, at the end of the day, to the kids it is more than just a cake.
